Infest 25 – Spotlight On – Eisfabrik
When Winter Comes in August…
Eisfabrik is a German electronic and Futurepop band. Eisfabrik is an art project with firmly integrated characters. The four ice cream factory owners are Dr. Snow, The Frost, °Celsius and Fahrenheit. Musically they move somewhere between dark electro and Futurepop, although they are also open to breaking out into other electronic directions and skillfully integrate this into their own sound. Catchiness and cool harmony are particularly important at Eisfabrik. Since it is an overall artistic concept, the visual factor also plays a major role, so that many individual effects and show interludes come into play during live performances. You play with innovative lighting effects on the protagonists themselves, as well as on stage. If a 2.30 meter tall robot or a yeti storms the stage while the band is doing their best, or as mentioned at the beginning, it starts to snow, that is also part of the current program like the band name, which is reflected in DMX mode spread across the entire stage.
Look out for the Yeti!
Eisfabrik was founded in the winter of 2011/2012 by Charly Barth-Ricklefs (formerly Shadow-Minds) and Gerrit Thomas (including Funker Vogt). As part of the 7th Darkflower Live Night, Eisfabrik appeared to an audience for the first time on October 4th, 2014. At the beginning of 2015 they founded their own music label Eismusik. The debut album “When Winter Comes” was released on February 13, 2015, and Jan Bertram has been an integral part of the band ever since. In 2015, Eisfabrik supported the band Project Pitchfork on their Blood tour. At the end of 2015, the band’s takeover contract was signed with the NoCut label, where the album “Eisplanet” was released in the same year. At the end of the year they played for the first time at the 4th Gothic Meets Klassik Festival in Leipzig and the Darkstorm Festival in Chemnitz. In 2016, Eisfabrik successfully accompanied the band Mono Inc. on their Terlingua tour through 13 German cities. Among other things, Eisfabrik played at the 12th NCN Festival and at the Autumn Moon Festival in Hameln.
There’s a freeze coming!
Their tours with Project Pitchfork and Mono Inc. exposed Eisfabrik to a larger audience, so they decided to embark on their own first headlining tour, the “Non-Summer Tour,” through seven cities. To coincide with the launch, her third studio album “Achtehnhundundunderforen” was released. Shortly after the end of the tour, they played for the first time at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig in the AGRA Hall and the Amphi Festival in Cologne’s Tanzbrunnen. In the second half of the same year, her second headlining tour “Kaltgebiets” began, which extended into spring 2018 and included the fourth album “Zero Kelvin”. Further appearances followed, among others, at the Etropolis Festival in Oberhausen, Call The Ship to Port on the MS Rheinenergie in Cologne, the M’éra Luna Festival in Hilldesheim, the Autumn Moon Festival in Hameln and the Darkstorm Festival in Chemnitz. This was followed in November by an appearance at the ORUS LIGHT FESTIVAL in Mexico City. Renè Dornbusch has been a permanent member of Eisfabrik as an electronic drummer since the end of 2018.
Icy Cool Futurepop
In 2019, Eisfabrik toured with the bands Agonoize and Funker Vogt on the “Hybridize Festival Tour 2019” in the cities of Hamburg, Oberhausen, Munich and Leipzig. For Eisfabrik, performances followed at the Summer Summit Festival in Oschatz, Black Castle Festival 2019 in Mannheim and the Nocturna Festival 2019 in Barcelona, Spain. The third headliner tour “Cryothermal Festivals” began in winter 2019 through 13 German cities. From autumn 2019 to summer 2021, Eisfabrik was under contract with the music label RepoRecords. In 2019 the EP “Rotationsausfall in der Eisfabrik” was released, followed by the fifth studio album “Kryothermalmusik aus der Eisfabrik” on January 24th, 2020, which was represented in the official German album charts for the first time.
To conclude this series, the mini-album “Automatization in the Ice Factory” was released in spring 2020, before the band found its way back to NoCut in summer 2021 to record the album “Life Below Zero” in 2022. The following year they released Götter In Weiss which featured 3 hit singles… Now they are back on tour!
